Houston Texans Defeat Oakland Raiders 31-24

October 3rd, 2010-  By Alex Groberman

The Houston Texans continued to build on an impressive early season by defeating the Oakland Raiders 31-24 in a hard fought game on Sunday afternoon.

Texans running back, Arian Foster stole the show coming back from an early benching to score on a 74-yard run and a 10-yard catch in the second half. Even though Foster was the league’s leading rusher coming into this game, he was held out until midway through the second quarter. Then, in the second half Foster took command of the game and helped lead the Texans to their third victory on the year. Foster finished the day with 131 yards on 16 rushes and a total of 56 receiving yards.

Quarterback, Matt Schaub made his own mark on the game courtesy of an 11-yard touchdown throw to Joel Dreessen who did his best Andre Johnson impression as he filled in for the Texans’ star wide receiver. Schaub wrapped up the day with 192 yards and two touchdowns on a 16-of-29 performance that allowed him to break David Carr’s Texans franchise record with his 60th touchdown pass for the team.

For the Raiders it was just more of the same, as they lost for the second straight week behind a mountain of turnovers and bad plays. Quarterback, Bruce Gradkowski turned the ball over three times, losing a fumble and throwing two untimely interceptions in the second half. The Oakland quarterback was briefly send into the locker room after a hard hit by Bernard Pollard in the second half.

However, he came back strong shortly thereafter with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Zach Miller early in the fourth quarter. Then, he drove the Raiders to a 39-yard field that made it 31-24 with six minutes remaining in the game. Unfortunately, despite getting the ball back three minutes left in the game.

The Texans were set by USA Online Sportsbooks and NFL Weekly Betting Odds as a three-point favorite covering by four point.  The over/under prior to kickoff was set at 43.5 points, taking the over on NFL Betting Trends.
