NFL Week 4 Match Ups: Houston Set as Three-Point Favorite Over Oakland
September 28th, 2010-  By Bryan Cross

Both the Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders will look to rebound from losses in Week Four of the 2010 NFL Season. Houston started out of the gate 2-0 before a loss to Dallas this past Sunday, while Oakland dropped a tough one to Arizona.

For the Texans, some considered their game against the Cowboys as a measuring stick.  They had started out with their first-ever win over Indianapolis in Week one, and had a dramatic over time win on the road at Washington in Week 3.  They weren’t so successful against the Cowboys in a 27-13 loss however.  Quarterback Matt Schaub was fresh off a 500-yard performance against the Redskins, but met a desperate Dallas team needing its first win of the year.  Now, comes another test for Houston coming off of the first loss in the season.

On the other side of the ball, the Raiders started quarterback Bruce Gradkoswki, but dropped a narrow one to the Cardinals 24-23.  Running back Darren McFadden continued to come on strong to begin the year, rushing for 105 yards on 25 carries and added a touchdown.  If the Raiders can continue to run the ball effectively with McFadden, that could open up the passing game to take advantage.

Looking ahead at this one, the Texans have the offensive attack to put up big numbers, as was evident against Washington.  While Schaub underwhelmed against Dallas with 241 yards passing on 22 of 32 for a touchdown and two interceptions, he has shown that he is more than capable of a huge game.  Running back Arian Foster continued to impress as well, rushing for 106 yards on 17 carries.

For the Raiders on defense, they will have their hands full.  They might take a look at how Dallas managed to contain the Texans offense, and then maybe look at the Washington defense against the Texans to see what not to do.  Oakland will have to honor the run, because Foster has proven to be productive even after his week-one explosion.  For the passing game, the Texans have perhaps the best wide receiver in Andre Johnson, and the Raiders will have to form coverages that pay close attention to him.

On the other side of the ball, look for the Raiders to continue to rush McFadden, as he has come on strong.  McFadden’s success gives the Raiders a new dimension to their offense, and if the quarterback situation in Oakland can settle, the Raiders could be dangerous.
