2010 NFL Week 5 Matchups | 2010 NFL Weekly Matchups

The 2009 NFL Week 5 Preview features some unique match ups in 2009. With four weeks already completed, some teams will try to continue their good starts while other teams look to turn their seasons around. Will the Bengals combination of WR Chad Ochocinco and QB Carson Palmer find a way to score enough points to defeat the hard hitting Ravens defense? In a seemingly lopsided game, 2008's best and worst teams will square off in 2009 NFL Week 5. Is there any way the Lions can go 0-16 and then come back this year and find a way to beat the Super Bowl champion Steelers? Also, can Peyton Manning lead the Colts offense past a stingy Titans defense? It will be interesting to see these story lines play out in Week 5.

A very interesting reunion will take place this week when new Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels faces his former club the New England Patriots. McDaniels takes over this year for long time Denver Head Coach Mike Shanahan. He had been with the Patriots since 2001 and served as their Offensive Coordinator the last three seasons. This will be the first time he faces his old team and he would want nothing more than to find a way to beat his mentor New England Head Coach Bill Belichick. Can the protege McDaniels find a way to out coach the great Belichick? This will be a game to surely keep an eye on in Week 5 of the NFL.

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Cleveland Browns @ Buffalo Bills - The Cleveland Browns get a break from the tough AFC North with a game against an AFC East team.  The Buffalo Bills should be considerably better on offense this year and have a chance to show case it against the lack luster Cleveland Brown defense.  Terrell Owens caught his first touchdown pass of the 2008 season in week 1 against the Browns.  The Bills will try and air it out in this week 5 match up against the Browns. Cleveland Browns vs. Buffalo Bills Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Dallas Cowboys @ Kansas City Chiefs - The Cowboys come off a home road game against Denver in week 4 and right into another road game in week 5 against the Chiefs.  The Cowboys high powered offense could pose problems for the Chiefs.  The only way the Chiefs pull off this victory is if they can out score the Cowboys with the home crowd behind them. Dallas Cowboys vs. Kansas City Chiefs Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Minnesota Vikings @St. Louis Rams - The Vikings are blessed with one of the easier schedules in the first 5 games of the 2009 NFL season.  The Vikings have an away game against the Rams but, should feel right at home as they play in a dome Every game from week 2 to 6.  This could prove to be an advantage to the Vikings, a team that plays in a dome and on artificial turf normally at home. Minnesota Vikings vs. St. Louis Rams Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Oakland Raiders @ New York Giants - The Giants get back to back match ups against the AFC west, week for it was the Kansas City Chiefs and week 5 the Giants play host to Oakland Raiders.  This could be worse news for the AFC West rather than the Giants.  The Giants have had one of the best defenses in the NFL sense their Superbowl run in 2007.  The Raiders will have to protect the quarterback against a nasty Giants pass rush if they want to win this one in New York. Oakland Raiders vs. New York Giants Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Philadelphia Eagles - The Buccaneers got by with home games against the Cowboys and Giants earlier in the season but, have to travel to Philadelphia in week 5.  The Eagles started last year sluggish but picked up momentum as the season went on.  I f the Eagles aren't playing good by week 5 look for this game to be the spark that ignites their season. Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Philadelphia Eagles Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Pittsburgh Steelers @ Detroit Lions - The Lions will have their hands full with the Superbowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers in week 5.  However a win in this game could give fans hope for the future as rookie quarterback Matt Stafford should be starting by week 5.  A win against the Steelers could boost his confidence for the rest of the season.  The Lions need to try hard this year in taking advantage of home games. Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Detroit Lions Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Washington Redskins @ Carolina Panthers - The Redskins get a good test to see their new high paid defense stop the run.  The Carolina Panthers ran the ball on a high percentage of plays in 2008 and their offense will resemble this again in 2009.  If Redskins DB DeAngelo Hall can match up with Panther wide out Steve Smith one on one the entire game, the Redskins might have an opportunity to stack the box stopping the run.  If not the panthers could easily run away with a win at home in week5. Washington Redskins vs. Carolina Panthers Preview

Sunday October 11, 1:00 pm - Cincinnati Bengals @ Baltimore Ravens - The Bengals take a visit to Baltimore to face a division opponent in the Ravens.  The Bengals lost both games to the Ravens in 2008 and look to seek revenge in Baltimore in week 5.  The Bengals don't stand a chance to make the playoffs in 2009 if they can't win division games like this one against the Ravens. Cincinnati Bengals vs. Baltimore Ravens Preview

Sunday October 11, 4:05 pm - Atlanta Falcons @ San Francisco 49ers - The 49ers get back to back home games in week 4 and week 5 and they hope they can capitalize wins in at least one if not both games.  The Falcons Posted one of the best running games in the NFL last year and, should improve the passing game in 2009.  Matt Ryan will have to perform well this year as teams like the 49ers are going to gear down on the Falcons run game and Make Ryan pass the ball more. Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers Preview

Sunday October 11, 4:15 pm - Jacksonville Jaguars @ Seattle Seahawks - The SeaHawks and Jaguars combined to win only 9 games in 2008.  This could be one of the only chances for either teams to claim a victory all year.  When bad teams such as these to play each other the deciding factor usually lies in who plays at home.  Look for that trend to continue as the SeaHawks host the Jaguars in week 5. Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Seattle Seahawks Preview

Sunday October 11, 4:15 pm - Houston Texans @ Arizona Cardinals - The Cardinals lost running back J.J. Arrington and Edgerrin James, so their offense will revolve around the passing game of Kurt Warner.  The Texans rely on Andre Johnson for their air support, This week 5 match up will most likely be won threw the air.  Three of the NFL's top 5 wide receivers in the last 5 years will all be in this game, the deep ball will be a factor. Houston Texans vs. Arizona Cardinals Preview

Sunday October 11, 4:15 pm - New England Patriots @ Denver Broncos - The Patriots play in their second road game of the season in week 5 when they travel to Denver to face the Broncos.  Broncos new head coach Josh McDaniels has a chance to beat his former team in the New England Patriots in week 5.  The Broncos haven't improved on offense or defense well enough to compete with the Patriots.  McDaniels will need some tricks up his sleeve to win this one. New England Patriots vs. Denver Broncos Preview

Sunday October 11, 8:20 pm - Indianapolis Colts @ Tennessee Titans - The biggest division game in week 5 is the Sunday night game between the Colts and the Titans.  The Titans snuck by wining the AFC South with just one more win than the Colts.  The Colts look to change things around this year and a week 5 win against the Titans in Tennessee just might jump start the Colts to take over in the driver seat. Indianapolis Colts vs. Tennessee Titans Preview

Monday October 12, 8:30 pm - New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins - The Dolphins get the Monday night game in week 5 hosting the New York Jets.  The Dolphins lost to the Jets at home in week one last year and than beat the Jets in New York on the last game of the season.  The Dolphins are starting to resemble the personality of Bill Parcells, The Dolphins will come out aggressive early in all games this year.  If the Jets can't keep up by the second half, the Dolphins could pull away early in this game. New York Jets vs. Miami Dolphins Preview

Week 5 Team Bye weeks: Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers
