green bay packers logoThe 2009 Green Bay Packers Season Preview shows a lot more promise than previous seasons. Last season was a disappointing one for all the Packer fans, the offense was a little above average, but the defense was a sore spot the whole year. That is why coach Mike McCarthy made the move to bring in Don Capers as the new defensive coordinator, he will install his 3 linemen and 4 linebackers line which Green Bay is not used to. They used their first draft pick to get a vital piece of that defense in nose tackle B.J. Raji. Aaron Rogers is back and had time to fix any problems he thought he had in his first starting season. Rogers has the same receiving core returning which is great for 2009 Green Bay Packers. The Packers are in a division that is pretty much on a rebuilding stage. The offense should be sharp with all there weapons returning. Defense may take some time to adapt to he new Caper's system, but should be much improved. Their schedule is pretty favorable to them and should be looking for a division title.

2009 Green Bay Packers NFL Draft
The 2009 Green Bay Packers NFL Draft focused on defense with 5 of 7 picks going that way. B.J. Raji was their first selection and should fill avoid they need at nose tackle. Raji has off the field problems coming out of Boston College. He failed a drug test and had academic problems in 2007, but turned around and had an excellent 2008 senior year. Clay Matthews was the Packers next selection to help out depth at the linebacker position. He was part of a dominate linebacking core from USC that all got drafted this year. Their third selection is a guy who may be able to play two positions on the offensive line. He played tackle in college and if he can bulk up for the NFL could see some time at guard.

2009 Green Bay Packers Quarterbacksaaron rodgers green bay packers quarterbackAaron Rogers has the starting job locked down, but he can still improve at the end of games. The Packers were horrible last season when they were down and got the ball back to go for the go ahead score with a 0-7 record when that occurred. Rogers had 28 touchdowns and only 13 interceptions with a 93.8 passer rating. We are hoping better results out of the 2009 Green Bay Packers Quarterbacks. He still has his receiving core together and have great chemistry together already. If Rogers still can't control the end of the game the Packers may be in trouble cause Matt Flynn and Brian Brohm are fighting for the backup spot but neither has looked to impressive.

2009 Green Bay Packers Running BacksThe 2009 Green Bay Packers Running Backs have quite a season ahead of them. The Packers are going to have to hope that Ryan Grant can be healthy all year and run like he did in the last 6 games in 2007. He suffered a hamstring problem in training camp last season and played through it all year. His average yards per rush went down from 5.5 to 3.9 last year, so the Packers think the injury was the problem cause they did not pick up any new backs to help him out. They still have Brandon Jackson in his 3rd year at back up and he also is in alot of  short passing downs for his hands. Green Bay did draft Quinn Johnson and think he could be an excellent blocking back.

2009 Green Bay Packers Wide Receivers Greg Jennings has made his self a big star in Green Bay catching 21 touchdowns the past 2 years. He has became the Packers number 1 receiver over long time Packer Donald Driver. Do not count Driver out, he is still a great receiver, he just does not have the same burst as he has had in the past. With 2 young hungry guys fighting for any playing time available James Jones and Jordy Nelson, these guys want to play and showed last year that they can. To state that the 2009 Green Bay Packers Wide Receivers are pumped and ready for this season would be an understatement. They have Donald Lee as the usual starter for the Packers but there is Jermichael Finley, a second year guy, who thinks he has some play making ability.

2009 Green Bay Packers Offensive LineThe 2009 Green Bay Packers Offensive Line is standing strong and ready for the first game of the season. This should be a solid group for the Packers this year, the same group of guys who ended the season last year will start the season this year. Jason Spitz will be the middle of the line at the center position. To help open a whole for him in the middle at the guard spots are Daryn Colledge and Josh Sitton. Left tackle Chad Clifton is a Green Bay veteran and should still have some fuel on his tank. The Packers tried to mold Breno Giacomini to be the next right tackle, but he has some other competition. Allen Barbe, rookie T.J. Lang and Tony Moll have shown some real growth.

2009 Green Bay Packers Defensive Line

Bet Ed Sportsbook For NFL Betting

The 2009 Green Bay Packers Defensive Line is in a big change in pace with Dom Capers taking over as defensive coordinator, which was a must do after the lack of defense last year. B.J. Raji and Ryan Pickett should share time at nose tackle. When Raji is there you may see Pickett go over to the end position to help put the pressure on the quarterback. The other end will be Cullen Jenkins who missed all of last year with a partially torn pectoral muscle. When Pickett is not at the end position look for veteran Johnny Jolly at the left end for the Green Bay Packers

2009 Green Bay Packers LinebackersThe Packers are moving Aaron Kampmann from defensive end to the outside linebacker position. They think he is athletic enough to make the transition and be effective immediately and be a big asset to the 2009 Green Bay Packer Linebackers. Green Bay made a big move up in the draft to pick up Clay Matthews to hopefully play at the right outside linebacker. The two inside linebackers are coming off an injured filled year. Nick Barrett is back after missing last season with knee-reconstruction surgery. For A.J. Hawk after an aggravated groin and a banged up shoulder. If they both are healthy their linebacking core should be very effective this year.

2009 Green Bay Packers Secondarycharles woodson green bay packers quarterbackThe Packers have two big time cornerbacks, though they are veterans, Charles Woodson and Al Harris are coming off of great years. Woodson had one of his best seasons with seven interceptions. They are impressed with nickel back Tramon Williams seeing a starting job some point this year. To help them in depth they added a young draft pick Pat Lee which they picked up in the second round. At safety they had a pro bowler in Nate Collins who had seven pick offs last year. Atari Bigby was bothered last season by a nagging ankle injury that lead to surgery in January. They are hoping the 2009 Green Bay Packers Secondary consists of better conditioned players this season.
