Second Race In The Chase Set For Sunday At Dover

Sports Betting News - September 26th, 2009 - Written by Scott

nascar sprint cupThe Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup will resume in its second race on Sunday in Dover.  Of the twelve drivers in the Chase, seven of them have won at Dover International Speedway.  The Monster Mile has proven to be somewhat of a nightmare for a couple of drivers, Juan Montoya and Denny Hamlin, in the Chase.  Montoya has only one top ten finish in his last five starts and Hamlin hasn't even finished in the top twenty five in his last four starts.  Montoya knows he must race well to keep from falling from his fourth place standing.

"We have to bring our A game," Montoya said. "No holding back nothing. It's time to go. . . . I don't want to leave anything on the table."

Only two drivers kept their positions after last week's race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Mark Martin (1st) ans Brian Vickers (8th).  Martin, who won in last week's first race of the Chase, has said that Dover is one of his favorites tracks.  He is also bringing one of his best cars.  He is bringing the car he raced at Darlington back in May where he won.  Jimmie Johnson is sitting at second in the point standings and this is one of his favorite tracks as well.  He has three consecutive top-10 finishes at Dover and won there in May.

Hamlin, on the other hand, knows he must race well this week as this track has not been kind to him.  He has not finished better that 36th during his last four races at Monster Mile.  If he can get a good finish this weekend, he has a legitimate shot to be right there with Martin and Johnson.  Montoya has not fared well in Dover either.  In his last two races, he has finished 39th and 30th.  He does have momentum in his favor as he enters this race though, so he should be expected to finish much higher this weekend.   He is still a little upset after last week's race where he was slowed by Martin during the final lap though.

Dover International Speedway has not been kind in the past to at least one of the drivers in the Chase.  Since the Chase began, one of the drivers in the Chase has finished 32nd or worse.  After the race at Dover, we should have a good indication of who will be the favorites to win the Sprint Cup.

Betus sportsbook has wagers on which driver will win the Sprint Cup in 2009.  All twelve drivers can be found at BetUS with their odds to win it all.
