Reid, Ponder Snap BYU's 18-Game Home Win Streak

Sports Betting News - September 20th, 2009 - Written by John

chris ponderGreg Reid backed into coverage, shadowed a BYU tight end, reached out and stole away the Cougars' BCS hopes. In the start of the third quarter, the freshman who is already making waves in Tallahassee as a prodigy, picked off Max Hall's pass and took it 64 yards to the house to turn Saturday night's game into a laugher. The pick made it 37-14, and Florida State went on to stun the no. 7 team in the land, 54-28. Florida State appears back on track after the Jacksonville State debacle, winning where no other team had done in the last 18 tries.

Seminole back Ty Jones ran for a team-high 108 yards in what should have been BYU's coming out party, and the 'Noles as a whole ran for 313. The Cougars beat Oklahoma in the season-opener to show they were going to be relevant, but they still needed another key win to prove worthy of a Championship opportunity.

Instead, it looked like Florida State was one of the best team's in the country, forcing five turnovers against one of college's best quarterbacks in Hall, recording it's highest point total on the road since 2005. The Seminoles converted each of their first nine third-down tries and scored on each of their first nine drives.

Christian Ponder guided the offense smoothly, going 21-for-25 for 195 yards and two scores. He also ran 11 times for 76 yards and a touchdown.

"It shows us what we can do," said Ponder on ESPN. "It's the first time in a while we played as a whole team. The defense played great. The offense played incredible."

"We went out there and made some plays," head coach Bobby Bowden said. "Which we hadn't done lately, and we also forced some crucial turnovers."
