Hurricanes Favored By 5 1/2 Against Georgia Tech Thursday Night

Sports Betting News - September 16th, 2009 - Written by Scott

hurricanesThe ACC is looking stronger as a conference this year with four teams ranked in the Top 25.  Two of these teams will collide on Thursday night as 14th ranked Georgia Tech travels to face the 21st ranked Miami Hurricanes.  Miami jumped into the Top 25 after their Labor day win over then-No. 18 Florida State. The Yellow jackets are coming off their victory over Clemson last Thursday night.  This matchup should show if Miami is on their way to getting back among the elite in college football.  All four ranked teams in the ACC are in the Coastal Division, so a win for each team Thursay is crucial in keeping their chances alive in making the ACC championship game.

Georgia Tech must find a way to fight fatigue as they will be playing their third game in thirteen days on Thursday night.    In their first two games their offense has been carried by their rushing game which is averaging 318 yards per game.   Johnathan Dwyer and Anthony Allen have carried most of the load.  The question for the Yellow Jackets has been their passing attack which is ranked 116th in the nation after two games.  They are only averaging 139.5 yards per game in the air and if the Hurricanes can stop their option rushing attack, they could find themselves in trouble on Thursday.  Tech quarterback Josh Nesbitt was just 3-14 in their win over Clemson.  Their defense must stay consistent the entire game as they blew a 24 point lead to Clemson.   They will be facing a Miami quarterback who dismantled the Seminole defense.

Fatigue should not be a factor for Miami as they have not played since September 7.  The Canes offense, which is led by Jacory Harris, lit up the Seminole defense for 476 yards in their season opener.  Harris passed for 386 yards and 2 touchdowns in their Labor Day Victory.  He has plenty of weapons around him as he passed to eight different receivers in their win.  Harris is definitely a threat that the Yellow Jackets must contain in order to win on Thursday.  Defensively, they gave up quite a few yards in their opener, including 110 yards on the ground to a Seminole team not known for rushing.  They must find a way to stop Tech's powerful rushing attack or it could be a long night.

This game is a great way to start the third weekend of the college football season.  Both teams should be able to put points on the board frequently. The Hurricanes come into the game favored by 5 1/2 according to sportsbook BetUS with a payout set at -110 for both teams.  The over/under for this matchup is at 54.
