Florida Remains No.1 In Scrambled AP Top-25 Poll

Sports Betting News - September 28th, 2009 - Written by Scott

gatorsAfter a weekend of upsets, four in the top-10, the Associated Press college football poll has a whole new look once again this week.  Two top-5 teams, No. 4 Mississippi and No. 5 Penn State dropped out of the top-10 after their losses this past week, both to unranked teams.  Ole Miss lost last Thursday to South Carolina 16-10 and the Nitany Lions fell to Iowa 21-10 on Saturday night.  Two other top-10 teams fell as No. 6 California got drilled by Oregon 42-3 and No. 9 Miami lost to 11th ranked Virginia Tech 31-7.

Three other losses in the top-25 occurred as No. 18 Florida State, No. 22 North Carolina, and No. 24 Washington made exits out of the polls this week.  Florida State lost to South Florida 17-7. The Tar Heels fell to Georgia Tech 24-7 and the Huskies lost to Stanford 34-14.

The top three teams kept their positions as Florida remains No.1, Texas No. 2, and Alabama stays at No. 3.  The SEC is showing it's strength as they have three of the top four teams in their conference, as LSU moves up to No. 4 after avoiding an upset to Mississippi State.  Boise State rounds out the top-5 and moves up to No. 5.

Three teams are making their way back into the top-10 as Virginia Tech moves to No. 6, USCto No.7, and Ohio State moves up to No. 9.   Rounding out the top-10, Cincinnati moves from 14th to 10th after their victory over Fresno State.

Both Iowa and Oregon jumped back into the top-25 after their victories.  Iowa re-enters the polls at No. 13 and Oregon at No.16.  Georgia Tech was the only other team to move back into the rankings as they sit at No. 25 after their win over North Carolina.

The top-10 teams that were upset this past weekend had significant moves downward.  Ole Miss fell to No. 21, Penn State to No. 15, California to No. 24, and Miami fell to No. 17.

There are a few games this weekend that could shake up the polls once again.  LSU travels to play No.18 Georgia, California will host USC, and the 8th ranked Oklahoma Sooners will travel to play at Miami.  A poll used in the BCS standings, the Harris poll, made its first appearance this week and their top ten are the same as the AP's.  The only changes had Ohio State ant No. 8 and Oklahoma at No.9.
