Could Tim Tebow Be The Answer In Jacksonville?

Sports Betting News - September 26th, 2009 - Written by Scott

timRumors regarding Tim Tebow and how he will fit in the NFL have circulated over the past couple of years.  Questions remain as to whether he can produce as an NFL quarterback or can he play another position.  His dedication and work ethic are obviously something that any franchise would love to have.  Is he the top quarterback in next year's NFL draft, probably not.  However, Jacksonville Jaguar owner Wayne Weaver has stated interest in drafting the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner.  Whether it be for his athletic ability or market appeal, Weaver has said he would consider having the Jacksonville native on his roster next year.

"Star power is incredible, and Tebow is an iconic figure," Weaver said. "That's very compelling. He clearly is an outstanding football player and would be an asset to any football organization."

The Jaguars have lost 17,000 season ticket holders following last year.  This is a devastating number for any organization and could lead to blackouts for every Jaguar home game in 2009.  Jacksonville has already covered 10,000 seats in order to reduce the stadium's capacity.  Is bringing in Tebow going to help fill all of those vacant seats in 2010?  When Brett Favre arrived in Minnesota, season ticket sales increased by 7,000.  Star quality does seem to put people in seats in professional sports.  The Jaguars have even gone as far as offering value meals at concession stands, offering ticket prices for only half of their games, and did not raise their ticket prices this year.  It's a situation that is odd, considering the fact that there are 1.3 million people living in the Jacksonville five county area.

"It's no fun to be in that position," Weaver said. "It is what it is. I'm not going to hang my head. I'm going to work hard and keep doing everything we know how to do to get out there. We've got to realize we're in a difficult economy and do everything we can do to make it affordable."

Tebow could help fill these vacant seats.  Some concerns regarding him as a NFL quarterback are his throwing motion, arm strength, and his ability to read defenses.  However, he is very accurate on his passes and is a proven winner.

The Jaguars have started the season 0-2 and this will not help with their home attendance numbers.  They have only scored 3 touchdowns this year and are averaging 14.5 points per game, 28th in the NFL.  If Tebow can't help fill seats, maybe he could help them win.
