No. 15 Nebraska Favored By 10 Over Texas Tech

NFL News - October 16th, 2009 - Written by Scott

nebraska cornhuskersA huge Big 12 game will take place on Saturday as Texas Tech travels to play No. 15 Nebraska. Nebraska (4-1, 1-0) will look to stay undefeated in conference play as they try to contain a high octane offense that the Red Raiders will bring. The Nebraska Cornhuskers are coming off their 27-12 victory over Missouri and Texas Tech routed Kansas last week 66-14. The Texas Tech Red Raiders (4-2, 1-1) only two losses have come against ranked teams. Nebraska will need to come out with a quick start and not put them in a position to come from behind as they did last week against Missouri. They were held scoreless through three quarters, but erupted for 27 in the fourth to seal the win.

Nebraska comes into the game with an offense that is averaging 404 yards and 37 points per game. They are led by quarterback Zac Lee who has passed for 1,085 yards and 10 touchdowns. They will need to improve on last week's effort in rushing where they were stuffed by Missouri. Roy Helu leads their group of backs with 552 yards and 6 touchdowns. They are led in receiving by Curenski Gilleylen and Niles Paul who have combined for 481 yards and 4 touchdowns. The Cornhuskers have done a great job of protecting the ball and have only committed 5 turnovers on the year.

Their defense will have their hands full all game against Texas Tech's explosive offense. The secondary will be challenged as the Red Raiders are averaging a nation leading 468 yards per game. They will need to slow this attack and force Texas Tech to resort to their rushing game, which is ranked 14th in the nation with only 78 yards per game.

The Red Raiders rely heavily on their passing game which has surged them to rank 2nd in both total yards (551) and points (43) per game. Quarterback Taylor Potts has passed for 1,817 yards and 13 touchdowns. They have seven receivers with over 200 yards and are led by Tramain Swindall who has 464 yards and 5 touchdowns. Texas Tech must be successful passing against Nebraska since their running attack has been non-existent. Their leading rusher is Baron Batch who has rushed for 312 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Their defense was strong against Kansas, but they will face a tough test this weekend. Nebraska will look to control the clock in order to keep the Red Raiders' offense off the field.

Nebraska will be favored by 10 against Texas Tech according to BetUS sportsbook. The over/under for this game is set at 61.
