Tito Ortiz And Forrest Griffin Headline Fight Card At UFC 106

Sports News - November 20th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

tito vs griffinThere is little doubt that things are going to be heated when Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin go head to head in the main event at UFC 106.

This is going to be a rematch of a fight that took place at UFC 59 in April of 2006. Then, the fight was a fantastic match, which was complemented with plenty of trash talking before the fight. That day, Ortiz proved to be better while handing Forrest Griffin his first professional loss.

Since then, the two have played down the previous rivalry and claim to have much respect for one another.

UFC 59 was a great match, only won by split decision, and the match at UFC 106 promises to be a dandy.

Ortiz is trying to get back into his dominant form of years past, mainly during his 5 title defenses. He is coming back after a back surgery in which Ortiz has 2 vertebrae fused together. Since then and after physical therapy, Ortiz claims to be in no pain and ready to resume his career, however his career in the UFC was in question. Ortiz and UFC president Dana White were able to come to an agreement on a contract, as well as work out personal differences between the two.

Tito Ortiz is sure to have a lot of crowd support, but so is Forrest Griffin.

Griffin is more a people's champions. Avid UFC fans followed Griffin up the ranks of the UFC after watching him win the "Ultimate Fighter", a reality based fighting competition for a UFC contract. In this fight, Forrest must return to that form that made him popular. In his last two matches, Griffin has either been KO'd or TKO'd. At UFC 101, Anderson Silva thoroughly dominated Forrest Griffin, knocking Griffin out in the first round. Before that, Griffin had been TKO'd by Rashad Evans at UFC 92 in the 3rd round.

Despite being beaten in his last two, Griffin comes into this fight as the favorite according to the UFC Betting Lines. Currently, oddsmakers see Griffin as the favorite paying out -130 compared to Even for Tito Ortiz. Lines courtesy of Bodog Sportsbook.

UFC 106 takes place on Saturday night live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Unlike UFC 105 last weekend, this UFC event will be pay-per-view only. Bettors will have at least until the PPV begins to place bets on the main event of UFC 106.
