Georgia Favored By 4 Over SEC Rival Auburn

Sports News - November 12th, 2009 - Written by Scott

georgia bulldogsIn SEC action on Saturday, the Auburn Tigers will travel to Athens to take on the Georgia Bulldogs. Alabama and Florida seem to have wrapped up their appearance in the SEC title game, but their is still much at stake in this heated rivalry. The two schools are just two hours apart and annually are in recruiting battles. The Tigers will look to avenge their 17-13 loss to Bulldogs a year ago and hopefully gain an edge in recruiting. Auburn (7-3, 3-3) is coming off their 63-31 blowout over Furman and Georgia (5-4, 3-3) routed Tennessee Tech 38-0.

After starting the season 5-0, Auburn has now dropped 3 of their last five. Offensively, they have averaged 48 points over their last 2 games. Quarterback Chris Todd has been steady as of late. He has thrown for 1,958 yards and 17 touchdowns on the year. More importantly, he has only thrown 3 interceptions in 244 attempts. Running back Ben Tate has quietly been impressive and has rushed for 1,142 yards and 8 touchdowns. Todd has found his go-to receiver in Darvin Adams. Adams has 627 yards receiving and 9 touchdowns. Auburn might need to rely more on their passing attack against Georgia, as the Bulldogs have a strong rushing defense.

The key for Auburn on Saturday will rely in their secondary play. They will need to shut down Georgia's A.J. Green who is a huge threat at receiver. Shutting down the pass could prove to be the difference as Georgia's running game has been less than stellar.

Georgia's offense has not been as impressive as expected and is averaging 27 points per game which ranks 7th in the SEC. Quarterback Joe Cox is their leader on offense and has passed for 1,886 yards and 17 touchdowns. Turnovers have hurt the Bulldogs all season and Cox has contributed with 12 interceptions. Their running attack has been stagnant this year. They are led by Richard Samuel who has rushed for 395 yards and 2 touchdowns. Wide Receiver A.J. Green is their threat on offense and should play despite a rib injury after missing their game last week with Tennessee Tech. The key for Georgia will come down to protecting Cox against Auburn's tough pass rush.

The Bulldogs defense will be challenged by Auburn's balanced attack. They will need to tighten up on their pass defense where they have been vulnerable all year.

Georgia will be favored by 4 at home over Auburn according to Betus sportsbook. The over/under is set at 57 1/2. Both teams will need a win as they try to move their way back up in the College Football Standings during the 2009 NCAA Football Season.
