Sports Betting News - July 17, 2009 - Written by Bruce

Longtime rivals Army and Notre Dame will play the first football game ever held at the new Yankee Stadium when they face off their in 2010. The game will be considered a home game for Notre Dame and will be televised on NBC. This will not be the first time these two have played at Yankee Stadium. From 1925-1946 they played at Yankee Stadium every season and last played each other there in 1969. Army is also supposed to play games at the new Yankee Stadium for three straight seasons after next year's meeting with Notre Dame. The two schools have met 49 times over the years with Notre Dame leading the series 37-8-4.

In what was maybe the game that put Notre Dame on the college football map they defeated Army in 1913 by a score of 35-13. The game saw the Irish revolutionize the forward pass which changed the way the game was played. From 1943-1946 when the teams faced each other every season, every game had one of the two teams ranked as No. 1 in the country. These were four legendary games which featured one of the best games in college football history. In 1946 Army was ranked No. 1 in the country and Notre Dame was ranked No. 2 when two teams met. The game finished at a 0-0 tie and is considered one of the best games of the century. After 1947 Army pulled out of the series because they felt it was becoming too one sided in favor of the Irish.

With the teams set to meet next year this historic college football rivalry will once again take place. It will be a great honor for both teams to play the first game at the new Yankee Stadium. There will be plenty of excitement surrounding the game and it should be fun to see these two schools face each other again. Army is coming off a disappointing season last year finishing at 3-9. Notre Dame is also coming off of disappointing season finishing last year at 7-6. The Irish have high hopes for the 2009 season and are hoping to build off of their 49-21 victory over Hawaii in last year's Sheraton Hawaii Bowl Game. Both teams will look to beat one another hoping for a much better season this year. This historic rivalry will be one of the most intriguing games of 2009 with all the history surrounding it.
