Tim Lincecum and Roy Halladay to Start Tonight's All Star Game

Sports Betting News - July 14th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The 2009 MLB All Star Game will see two of the best pitchers in the game as the starting pitchers. Tim Lincecum from the San Francisco Giants is the National League starter and Toronto Blue Jay's pitcher Roy Halladay will start for the American League. Both have been amazing not just this season but for the last few seasons. Lincecum is the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner and is 10-2 this year with a 2.33 ERA. This is his second all star appearance but was unable to play last year due to an illness. He is no doubt ecstatic to get a chance to start the All Star Game for the first time in young career. Halladay has also been dominant earning his sixth all star selection this season. This will be the first time in his great career that he will start the All Star Game. With a 10-3 record on the season and a 2.85 ERA against tough American League hitting Halladay has pitched very well all season long. Both pitchers are well deserving of this prestigious honor and all eyes will be on them tonight when they take the mound.

Tim Lincecum literally looks like a regular teenager you might see skateboarding or surfing sporting long hair and laid back attitude. He is listed at 5'11 and 172 lbs but is probably not even that big. His smaller stature by no means reflect how truly remarkable he is a pitcher. He can throw his fastball right by hitters insanely reaching speeds in the upper 90's. When he won the NL Cy Young Award last year he became the first player to accomplish this in their second major league season since 1985. To go along with his great fastball Lincecum also has an effective changeup and curveball which make him nearly impossible to hit. He is tied for the major league lead with 149 strikeouts. In his very last start of the first half he nearly threw a no hitter against the San Diego Padres. He carried the no hitter all the way into the seventh inning to earn his fourth straight win. Halladay has been equally as impressive and has two seasons already under his belt with over twenty wins. Since he started in the major leagues Halladay has been a dominant pitcher. In his second career start he took a no hitter all the way to two outs in the ninth inning before getting it broken up. He has been a remarkable pitcher for the Blue Jays since they drafted him back in the 1995 draft. No pitcher in the league has more wins than Halladay since the 2002 season.

Tonight's 2009 MLB All Star Game is being held in St. Louis, Missouri at Busch Stadium. The American League has been in complete control over the last 12 seasons. They have won 11 of the 12 games and tied in the other one. The National League is no doubt tired of losing and are hoping to put an end to the streak Tuesday night. Both teams feature potent lineups and it should be a very exciting night of baseball. Rumors are swirling around American League starter Roy Halladay as he is been the topic of trade discussions of late. It is easy to see why teams would be interested in acquiring the star pitcher and his skills will be on display tonight for all to see. It should be a great game tonight and we will find out whether the National League can finally end their losing streak or if the American League will once again win adding to their dominance.
