Roddick vs. Federer Betting Already Going Strong

Sports Betting News - July 3, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

wimbledonThe 2009 Wimbledon Men's Finals are finally all set and so are the betting odds. Tennis oddsmakers, all over the world, were right on top of both of today's Wimbledon Men's Semi Finals matches, as Men's and Women's tennis are among the World's most wagered upon sporting events. As soon as the matches were over, and the Finals were set, Wimbledon betting odds went up on the board, at online sportsbooks all across the country.

As expected this morning, Roger Federer easily put away Tommy Haas, in straight sets, which allowed him to advance into the 2009 Wimbledon Men's Finals. Another very easy win for Federer, as he cruises into his 7th Wimbledon Final. Federer has won 5 of the last 6 Wimbledon Men's Championships, and is looking to add to that total, after last year's shocking loss to Rafael Nadal.

The other Wimbledon Semi Finals match featured American Andy Roddick taking on the English favorite Andy Murray. Roddick was finally able to get back to the Wimbledon Finals for the first time since 2005, a match which he lost to Roger Federer. Unfortunately for Roddick, the very same thing happened the previous year, in the 2004 Wimbledon Men's Final.

Federer clearly has the edge in this matchup, as the stats show. That alone is enough to keep Federer as the favorite, but that isn't to say that Roddick doesn't have a chance. Oddsmakers have the set the odds the way they see the match going, and apparently, they think Federer is going to beat Roddick in 3 straight sets, so much so that it pays less than 1 to 1, at -125. If you go with Federer 3 sets to 1, the payouts get much better, and jump to +250, or 5 to 2. Federer 3 sets to 2, pays out +650.

The payouts for an Andy Roddick Wimbledon Championship are very good, but could also be very unlikely to happen. Just choosing the most likely outcome, in favor of Roddick, 3 sets to Federer's 2, pays out +1000, or 10 to 1. Payouts get better as you go to 3 sets to 1, in favor of Roddick, to the tune of +1200, or 12 to 1. Finally, if Roddick beats Federer in straight sets, risky bettors are going to earn +1600, or 16 to 1 odds.

The Finals match takes place live, from Centre Court at the All England Club, on Sunday, July 5th, 2009. It should be electric, and for the first time, rain will not ruin the finals, as Centre Court now has a retractable roof.
