Nash Agrees On Two Year Extension With The Suns

Sports Betting News - July 20th, 2009 - Written by Ryan Smith

Phoenix Suns super-star Steve Nash has reportedly agreed on a two year contract extension that should keep him with the franchise until the end of the 2011-2012 NBA season. Nash a two time NBA regular season MVP with the Phoenix Suns was offered the extension sometime last week and, after deliberating over the extension with agent Billy Duff agreed earlier today to stay in sunny Phoenix. Nash was to play out the remainder of his old contract this year with one season left worth 13.1 million dollars not all guaranteed. With the new contract extension Nash will receive the entire 13.1 million dollar salary owed in 2009-2010 as well as an extension for two years after next season worth 20 million big ones.

Nash who just turned 35 this year expressed issues with the Suns franchise and their ability to retain an elite status again in the NBA. However after trade rumors of Amare Stoudemire have ceased in past weeks Nash decided to stay in Phoenix in what should be the remainder of his career. Sources say the resigning of Grant Hill one of Nash's good friends in the NBA revived interest in Nash to stay with the Suns. ESPN reports Nash will announce his extension via Twitter later today.

The Suns and President of operations Steve Kerr had no choice but to do what ever they could to try and resign Steve Nash. Nash has become the face of the Suns franchise since his two MVP seasons as well as one of the leading faces of the entire NBA. Trading Boris Diaw and Raja Bell last season created some stir of conversation into what direction Kerr and the Suns were headed into. Acquiring Jason Richardson added a potential 20 points a game scorer but the loss of Shaq during the off season was a huge deal. With Shaq out of the paint and Stoudemire coming back from an eye injury the suns will likely rotate back to the fast past team the used to be when they were so successful.

Signing Nash was the first good decision by Kerr as the Suns can only go as far as Nash will take them. Nash received a very lucrative contract for a player at 35 years of age. Nash will now get payed to play NBA basketball until he is 38 years of age which many speculate will be his last season in the NBA. Nash and the Suns were on top of the world just a few years ago touting the leagues most exciting team to watch and scoring more points then any other team in the NBA. With a new contract and some stability behind the Suns franchise Nash will have an opportunity to take the Suns back to the top of the Mountain if he can just get other players such as Stoudemire and Richardson to buy into the mentality of a championship effort. I hope the Suns of old come back and make the playoffs in 2009-2010.
