Tiger Woods Coasts to Buick Open victory

Sports Betting News - August 2nd, 2009 - Written by Bruce

Tiger Woods was in complete control on Sunday shooting a three under par 69 to win the Buick Open by three shots. Even though he started the 4th Round with only a one shot lead the outcome of the tournament seemed to be a forgone conclusion. Woods has now improved to a ridiculous 47-3 when at least sharing the lead heading into the final round of a tournament. Tiger finished at -20 for the tournament ahead of three golfers who all tied for second at -17. In only eleven starts since returning from knee surgery Woods now has his fourth victory of the season which is twice as many than any other golfer on tour.

The final round saw Tiger hold a two shot advantage for much of the day. He had birdies on the 4th and 7th holes putting him at two under after the front nine. A birdie on the par 5 16th hole gave Tiger his three shot lead which he did not relinquish. Tiger finished the round with the three birdies to go along with no bogeys. On the par 5 13th hole Tiger went for the green in two but hit his approach into the water. A beautiful wedge shot stopped within a few feet of the hole that left Tiger with an easy par putt which he converted. After a disappointing 71 in the 1st Round Tiger called his putting performance that day possibly the worst of his career. He has rebounded with a tremendous final three rounds which saw him go nineteen under par which was more than enough for him to win yet another title.

With this weekend's Buick Open title Tiger now has 69 career PGA Tour victories. In what is an absolutely amazing statistic Tiger has won 21 of his last 39 PGA Tour starts. The lowest round of the day went to Roland Thatcher who shot an amazing 8 under 64 to soar up the leader board and finish in a tie for second. There was very little hope for him to win though as Tiger has now improved to a dominant 36-1 when having the lead by himself going into the final round of a tournament. This week's Buick Open is yet another victory in the illustrious career of Tiger Woods.
