PGA Championship 1st Round Betting Odds

Sports Betting News - August 11th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The 91st PGA Championship gets under way on Thursday, and the 1st Round Betting Odds have recently been released. This will be the fourth and final major championship of the year. Every year the top golfers in the world all take part, making the PGA Championship one of the top golf tournaments of the year. The world's number one golfer, Tiger Woods, has yet to win a major this year, so all eyes will be on him to see if he can win the last major of the year. Betting Lines have Tiger Woods listed as the clear favorite to win the tournament, with his line set at 3:2. Tiger will be trying to add to his 14 career major victories when he tees off this week. He is hoping to move one step closer to Jack Nicklaus who holds the all time record for major's won with 18. Woods has already won the PGA Championship on four different occasions, with his last title coming in 2007. He is coming off of winning his last two tournaments, so Tiger looks to be in peak form coming into this week. For all of the PGA Championship Betting Odds be sure to visit Bodog Sportsbook.

There are two golfers who are tied as the betting lines second favorite to win the PGA Championship this week. Both Phil Mickelson and Padraig Harrington are listed at 22:1 to win the tournament. Mickelson has missed much of this year due to him dealing with some family issues, but he has managed to still win two tournaments and is ranked fourth on the PGA Tour money list this season. If he can get off to a good start this week, Mickelson may be a good bet listed at 22:1. Padraig Harrington has struggled for most of this season dealing with a swing change. Just last week though, he held the lead going into the final round of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. Even though he ended up in a tie for second behind the winner Tiger Woods, it has to be a big confidence boost for Harrington as he heads into the last major of the year. One thing to keep an eye on when betting on this year's winner, is that Harrington won last year's PGA Championship to give him his third career major.

PGA Championship Betting Odds have Lee Westwood as the next favorite to win this week, with his line set at 28:1. Both Hunter Mahan, Steve Striker, Sergio Garcia, and Retief Goosen are tied at 33:1 to win the tournament. Garcia is widely regarded as the top golfer to never have won a major, so maybe he is due to break out and win this week. Other golfers to keep an eye on are Jim Furyk (40:1), Anthony Kim (50:1), Ernie Els (50:1), and Vijay Singh also listed at 50:1. There are other types of wagers to choose from when betting on this week's PGA Championship as well.
