Betting Odds Favor Yankees over Red Sox for Tonight's Game 2

Sports Betting News - August 7th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

After a dominating 13-6 win on Thursday night, the New York Yankees are favored to beat the Boston Red Sox again tonight. Josh Beckett (13-4, 3.27) will start for the Red Sox, and he will go up against the Yankees' starter A.J. Burnett (10-5, 3.89). The Yankees win last night was the first time they had beaten their bitter rivals this season. Boston had won eight straight games against New York before the loss last night. Betting Lines slightly favor the home team listing the Yankees at -120. The visiting Red Sox are listed at even money. Be sure to check out BetUS for the latest betting odds on all of tonight's major league baseball games.

Josh Beckett has pitched incredible for Boston this year and he seems to be getting stronger as the season has progressed. He has been so dominant that he has allowed three runs or fewer in 13 of his last 16 starts. The last time he took the mound, Beckett pitched seven shutout innings in a Red Sox win over the Baltimore Orioles. Opposing hitters are only batting .234 against him this season. Boston has to be feeling good with their ace taking the mound tonight. Beckett has faced New York three times already this season, going 2-0 with a 5.82 ERA. He has been pitched so well lately that Boston has to be confident that he can help them rebound from last night's embarrassing loss with a win tonight. Even though the Betting Odds favor the Yankees tonight, Beckett will need to be on his "A" game as the Yankees bats exploded with eighteen hits and four home runs last night.

The home team will send A.J. Burnett to the mound tonight looking for a second straight victory against the visiting Red Sox. Burnett has pitched well for most of this season, but he is coming into tonight's start after struggling in his last outing. He gave up seven runs and a season high ten hits before leaving the game in the fifth inning The Yankees lost that game 14-4 to the Chicago White Sox. Before that start Burnett had won five straight decisions. He has lost to the Red Sox both times he has faced them this season, but he is 5-1 with a 3.80 ERA in ten starts against them in his career. Whenever these two teams play one another there is always plenty of anticipation surrounding the series. Both the Yankees and the Red Sox are currently two of the best teams in the major league's. With only 3.5 games separating them for the AL East lead, there is plenty on the line when the teams take the field for Friday night's game.
