As Field Dwindles Tiger Woods' Odds To Win PGA Championship Increase

Sports Betting News - August 15th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

pga championshipComing into Saturday, the field at the 91st PGA Championship, from Hazeltine National Golf Club, will be remarkably different. For starters, the massive field has been cut to just 80 golfers, after Friday's cut line of 4 over par, eliminated a bulk of the competitors. One of the players that will not be missing the cut is Tiger Woods, who is currently the leader at 7 strokes under par. Among those who did miss the cut were Bubba Watson, Davis Love III, Sergio Garcia, Mike Weir, and Adam Scott. The cut was made easier when J.B. Holmes withdrew, as did John Daly because of back problems.

Woods entered his round, on Friday, as the sole leader of the 2009 PGA Championship, by posting an opening round 67. Coming into this tournament, Tiger was at 3 to 2, to win the tournament, but has since moved to 1 to 5 odds, after taking a 4 stroke lead, on the field, by the end of Friday's round. Tiger was sharp on his Friday round, and managed to get to 7 under par by shooting a 2nd round 70. Though Tiger is 4 shots clear, at one point he was in a 4 way tie for the lead. Players like Padraig Harrington, Vijay Singh, Lucas Glover and Ross Fisher all made runs at Tiger, throughout the day, but none were able to claim an outright lead. Woods held off the field by ending the second round, just as he did the first, as the leader.

As far as the odds makers are concerned, this one is all but over. With Tiger installed at 1 to 5 odds, bet $5 to win $1, betting the odds to win is a bad idea. Chances are that Tiger will continue to dominate. These odds aren't isolated either. Sports bettors can easily find the same odds at Bodog Sportsbook, BetED, or even BetUS Sportsbook, however they will have to risk large amounts of money just to hope for modest payouts. The better bet would be on the 3rd round matchups, found at BetED Sportsbook. These are great bets which can really pay out. It is the best way to bet a tournament, that is "In Play", especially when the leader seems to running away with the tournament.
