Poker After Dark: The Cash Game Friday Recap

Poker News - September 13th, 2009 - Written by Glen

poker after darkSix of the biggest names in Poker gathered around a table to play in a high stakes, fast paced cash game. Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonious, Howard Lederer, Eli Elezra, Ilari Sahamias, and Phil Ivey brought a minimum of $150,000, with some as much as $250,000, to the table to buy into this amazing cash game. With the first week down, the chip stacks had changed hands with epic proportions.

Tom Dwan came into Friday as the biggest stack. He walked into the evening with $544,000 on the table, after gaining over a quarter of a million from the other players. Ivey was the second largest stack, as he had $350,000 dollars in front of him, having beaten the rest for over $100,000. Eli Elezra had a sum of $173,000, with gains of $73,000. Patrik Antonious sat on $184,000, but was down $166,000. Ilari Sahamias sat on $91,000, but was down nearly $210,000. Howard Lederer was down $92,000.

The first two hands of the evening went to Eli Elezra and Patrik Antonious. Eli had raised the pot on a pocket pair of fives, giving him the blinds and the ante. On the second hand, Dwan raised the pot with a weak hand, with Antonious and Lederer limping in. Antonious hit a pair of aces on the flop, raised $5,000, and took the pot. Prop betting action gave Sahamias a small chunk of Dwan's top stack, and the third hand ended up in Eli's pocket after hitting a nut flush draw. Lederer fed Elezra another $30,000 dollars after calling a four spade community with a pair of jacks. Howard was down over six figures after that hand. Elezra had punished Lederer with trips earlier on in the week, and once again beat down the Professor. Lederer finally took a pot when he raised Dwan and Antonious by $10,000, gaining a profit of just over $5,000 for himself.

The Titans clashed once more midway through the night, with heads up play coming into the lap of Dwan and Ivey. Dwan pulled down the $31,000 pot, after Lederer folded out what would have been a set of sixes to Dwan's two pair. Ivey attempted to bluff his way through, but came up short after Dwan and Ivey checked through the flip and river. Later on in the evening, a full house dropped for Tom Dwan, who ended up folding under pressure to Ivey and Antonious having nothing. Ivey raised Antonious $10,000, while Ivey had no chance to win the pot against Ivey's seven high to Antonious's queen high.

Dwan had a slow night, but came back to win the final hand of the night. The night came to an end with players remaining in their relative positions, though Lederer recouped some of his losses. Tom "Durrrr" Dwan stayed on top, with Ivey beneath him. Players are redrawing seating for next week, which should prove to be just as exciting as the last. Props bets are flying across the table, and money is changing hands quickly. Stay tuned for further updates.
