Poker Academy Sued by Champion for Misuse of Name

Poker News - October 30th, 2009 - Written by Glen

sally boyerSally Anne Boyer, a World Series of Poker champion from 2007, has filed a suit against Harrah's and the World Series of Poker Academy for the misuse of her name and image. More specifically, they had allegedly used Boyer's visage in marketing and promotions, and Boyer claims that they had done so without her permission.

In her suit, Boyer claims that she had attended the academy for one day, and did not graduate. The alleged marketing scheme claimed that Boyer owes her victory in the 2007 World Series of Poker's Ladies No-Limit hold 'em championship.

Though the WSOP academy stated that Boyer's success was due to the academy, she claims that the teachings at the WSOP academy had nothing to do with her performance. So far, Harrah's has refused to comment on the nature of this issue.

Live poker venues have not been in the news regarding lawsuits recently, but Internet poker has been taking a bad wrap. Online Poker giant Full Tilt Poker has recently been slapped with a lawsuit, one that was dismissed for great justice, claiming that the operators of the site had been using poker robots to take money from players. This has been found untrue, and Full Tilt Poker remains one of the most trusted USA poker rooms.
