Ohio Sees Poker Heist, Over $10,000 Nabbed in the Grab

Poker News - October 29th, 2009 - Written by Glen

Ohio has taken one of the biggest hits from the economic downturn, and as with any recession, crime seems to be on the rise. A large heist hit a poker game, bringing several perpetrators wielding assault rifles to a private game, snagging over $10,000 dollars from the prize pool.

Seven players were involved in the high stakes game, and one had taken a short break to step outside to have a smoke. Upon exiting the building, a gun was shoved in his face and was forced back in the building, followed by two gunmen. The players were relieved of their wallets, money, and indeed their pants. Adding injury to insult, the perpetrators then sprayed each in the face with pepper spray prior to their departure.

Playing poker in your home is thought to be safe, but the host had advertised on a home poker listing site to increase the number of players involved. It is assumed that the criminals had found this listing, followed the game to its source, and thus taken the players for their money and dignity.

Bad beats are a part of poker, and this is the baddest beat of all. As the ballots are approaching and expanded gambling is an issue on these ballots, criminal activity involving any form of gambling is bound to hurt the pro-gambling issue. Unfortunately, Monday had also seen a poker heist - one involving a $75,000 dollar theft. If these rising incidence of poker crimes continue, more players may continue to flock toward USA online poker rooms as their method of playing poker.
