Crime Pays, but only $10 dollars: Player Robbed after Leaving Poker Game

Poker News - October 25th, 2009 - Written by Glen

pokerSome days at the poker tables are more profitable than others. Walking out of a poker room with a pile of money can sometimes be a disconcerting experience, particularly if leaving late at night, as many players do. Six months ago, a man had left a Daytona Beach poker room with roughly $1,500 dollars in winnings, and was followed home by two armed robbers.

The robbers had accosted the poker winning player, demanding that he, Daniel Partridge, turn out his pockets and give the assailants his money. Unbeknownst to the thieves, Partridge had left his wallet containing the $1,500 dollars in his car. All the thieves managed to abscond with was a paltry sum of $10 dollars.

The robbery involved ski masks and a shotgun, though the shotgun was unloaded. Florida has a 10-20-Life law pertaining to crimes involving firearms, stating that any crime taking place with the use of a firearm will be met with a mandatory ten year sentence. Whether or not this will be the minimum for the alleged perpetrators is up in the air. Investigators linked Phillip Niles Jr. and Eric Roberts to the crime. Niles and Roberts were 18 and 19 years of age, respectively.

Niles has already been detained, as he had turned himself in, but has not admitted nor denied his involvement. Bond has been placed at $20,000 dollars. Eric Roberts has since moved to Illinois, and is expected to be brought in on an armed robbery charge, as he has already been questioned by Illinois police and admitted to his involvement in the malfeasance.

In light of this event, six months ago as it were, players are still wondering why USA online poker rooms have not been regulated. This sort of thing would not happen to online players, at least not under the same circumstances. Thankfully the thieves were caught, and perhaps the robbery of poker games will once again abate.
