Poker News - July 14, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The 2009 WSOP Main Event is down to only 64 players remaining going into today's Day 7. Two of the top six chip stacks belong to to the two most recognizable names in the field. Antonio "The Magician" Esfandiari is in great shape sitting with over 5.6 million chips good for the sixth largest chips stack. In even better shape is an absolute monster in the poker world Phil Ivey. Ivey has a huge stack of over 6.3 million chips and is currently in third place. It has been quite some time since a well known poker professional has won the title. Carlos Morstensen was the last to do so back in 2001. The poker pros have become quite restless as they have wanted one of their own to win the title. This very well may be the year it happens as both Ivey and Esfandiari have the chips and the skills to get it done.

Day 7 will get under way today with 8 tables remaining. They are definitely all in a position where the final table is in their sites. When the tournament got started back over a week ago the remaining players had hoped they could be in a position as this with the end in site. With 6,494 players who entered this year's Main Event it was tough to really think that they could win the whole thing. Now with only 64 players left it is no doubt an achievable goal which both of the top pros have high hopes of accomplishing. Ivey has made a deep run in this tournament on more than occasion before going out to bad beats. He is many people's favorite in every tournament he enters and this may be the year that the poker phenom gets it done. Both him and Esfandiari are great players who are capable of controlling most tables they are seated at. It will be exciting to see if they can continue their great runs this year and both land at the final table. Will this be the year that one of these top pros take down the title? Today's Main Event Day 7 will be hugely anticipated by poker fans worldwide.
