Poker News - July 9, 2009 - Written by Bonnie

amirAfter a long day at play, Day 2B of the 2009 WSOP has come to a end. Nearly twice as many players as the previous day showed up for a shot at making it through to day 3. With a room capacity of 2800, tournament officials had to literally pull every poker table in the building in order to accommodate the 2924 players. With so many seats field in day 2, it makes the 2009 WSOP Main Event the largest one since 2009, which also contains more competitors than World Series of Poker Main Events combined from 1970-1995.

Amazing poker skills were displayed from some of the well known poker players such as Phil Ivey, ElkY, David Benyamine, and Dan Harrington, just to name a few. Displaying some of their hidden talents were celebrities of another arena such as LA Laker Jordan Farmar, and well known actors Lou Diamond Phillips and Marlon Wayans. Day 2B did not end so well for poker player Erick Lindgren, Shannon Shorr, Victor Ramdin, Vanessa Rousso, Scotty Nguyen, and Howard Lederer who all made a early exit only hours into play. By the time it was early evening, nearly 900 hundred players had been eliminated, awarding them front spots in the dinner line. It was not long after that, that players started dropping off one by one. Managing to stay in the game a majority of the day, Marlon Wayans was sent to the rail shortly after the dinner break, joined by Gavin Griffin and Ylone Schwartz.

Day 2B concluded with Amir Lehavot leading the pack with 610,500, making him the current chip leader and a great distance from his next closest competitors Peter DeBaene and Troy Weber. A total of 1486 players made it through a grueling day of play and among those advancing to Day 3 were poker players Phil Ivey, Jeff Lisandro, and Brian Lemke. Day 3 will soon be underway and hold nearly 2000 hopefuls, all on a mission to capture the 2009 WSOP Main Event bracelet.
