World Championship of Online Poker Starts Next Week

Poker News - August 29th, 2009 - Written by Glen

wcoopStarting the third of September, the World Championship of Online Poker will kick off, offering millions in prizes to the top earners on PokerStars. Forty-five events are on the ballot, and satellites are already running to determine seating.

Two events or more will take place every day from September 3rd to September 30th. With Buy-ins ranging from $109 to just over $10,000, players of all financial standing will be able to participate. With satellite games as low as $2 dollars, players will find that cheap entrance is a possibility.

The events will include all of the poker variants, including HORSE, razz, stud, Texas, and Omaha hold 'em. The first event will run as a six-max hold 'em event at 7:30 Greenwich Mean Time. That first event will carry a guaranteed prize pool of $1,250,000. The main event will be a $10,000,000 dollar guaranteed purse, No Limit hold 'em event.

In its history, the WCOOP has paid out over $103,177,899.90, distributed bracelets similar to that of the WSOP, and brought in buy-ins from 162,170 players. 121 events have been played, and the series has been regarded as one of the largest poker series in the world - on or offline.

Three players, two of which came from the United States, have won over a million dollars playing in the WCOOP. To usher in the event, Poker Stars has increased their bonus - new depositors will find a $600 dollar match bonus, up from $50. Those who have not begun playing through PokerStars would be wise to get in now, and start winning satellites into the World Championship of Online Poker.
