Bitter Buffalo Fans Vandalize Leodis McKelvin's Lawn

NFL News - September 16th, 2009 - Written by Scott

buffaloIt seems as though the Buffalo Bills football team had their opinions on their fans wrong. After a shocking come from behind victory by the New England Patriots on Monday night, Bills corner back Leodis McKelvin had his home vandalized. The score of the game was painted in white on McKelvin's lawn according to Hamburg police. Details of the investigation however were not released.

With the Bills leading the Patriots 24-19 with under two minutes remaining Monday night, McKelvin's decision to return a kick off, rather than take the touch back, has been scrutinized. He fumbled the ball during the return and the Patriots recovered the ball. McKelvin was hit at the 30 yard line by Brandon Meriweather and in an attempt to gain another yard, he was stripped of the ball by Pierre Woods. Just three plays later, Tom Brady connected with Benjamin Watson for the go ahead touchdown. Obviously not happy that he fumbled the ball, after the game McKelvin said that if the situation happened again he would return the ball, but perhaps put a little thought into it first.

"Next time I get the opportunity, I am going to hold on and make a better decision," he said.

Bill's fans are very passionate about their team and this comes as a huge surprise as Bills players have praised their fans for being respectful. Safety George Wilson was in awe after learning of this terrible occurrence.

"To see that type of response from so-called passionate fans is taking things to the extreme," said Wilson, who is the team's union representative. "You can blog and make your opinions, but to go to a person's residence, you're taking it to a whole new level."

This event does draw concern from Bills players about their privacy and safety. Linebacker Kawika Mitchell is one of the players who expressed his opinion and anger regarding the vandalism of McKelvin's yard. He views this act as threatening and he had this to say on a post on his Twitter page...

"W/ all the safety issues n the NFL its not funny at all," Mitchell wrote. "We have Fam at our homes to protect. If u show ur face on my prop Ill make sure I do everythin to keep my Fam safe. Its my job to protect my home as it is the job of all home owners. Dont push the limit."

In the Bills last three Monday night games, they have had the lead late in the fourth quarter and wound up with a loss. The players took Tuesday off and will return to the practice field today as they prepare for their game Sunday with Tampa Bay.
