Moss Had Hard Time Walking On Monday

NFL News - October 2nd, 2009 - Written by John

mossPatriots wide receiver Randy Moss has come under fire in recent days for dogging plays against the Falcons. Several reporters suggested that he was loafing around the feels on run plays, allowing the safeties to easily rule out a pass and crash the rusher.

But he was listed on the injury report before the game for a back injury and the 11-year veteran told the Boston Herald that he was in terrible discomfort that game and found it difficult to walk afterwards.

”It just slipped out on me. I don’t know what happened to it,” Moss told writer Karen Guregian. ”I got home Sunday, and I thought to myself, ‘How did you play?’ Because I couldn’t really walk on Monday.”

He completed practice in the week leading up to it and wouldn't divulge the nature of the injury. This allowed writers to speculate it was a minor injury and even CBS Sports' Mike Freeman said he didn't buy into the injury affecting his play.

He managed to break the 100-yard barrier in the game, catching a team-high 10 passes, despite the pain but he was noticeably favoring his back in the post-game locker room.

The Patriots, despite beating a very good Atlanta team by 19, have a serious task ahead of them. They are favored by a slim two-point margin against the 3-0 Ravens at home and will need a lot of production from Moss. And not for the usual reasons. Baltimore has been known as a nasty defensive squad but have lately blown open games with their fluid offense. Joe Flacco, who didn't throw for 300 yards a single game last year, has done it twice in three games. Willis McGahee, the team's third-down back behind Ray Rice, leads the NFL with six touchdowns.
