Favre Memorabilia Burning Idea Doused by Fire Dept.

NFL News - October 2nd, 2009 - Written by John

favreThere is always the typical disgust when a former icon leaves town for another team. So much so that fans just want to destroy every memory incurred by said player. In Wisconsin, they do.

Upon one of the most anticipated meetings this season, a restaurant in Eau Claire, called the Milwaukee Burger Co., has promoted Brett Favre's first game against the Packers with a good old-fashioned bonfire. One that will be used to torch everything with his likeness. Jerseys, hats, pictures are all fair game.

Packer fans all over loved the idea. The fire department? Well, not so much.

This week the restaurant was asked to subdue the revenge plot, instead asking them to burn only one jersey and have a memorabilia dump for the fans. The restaurant will instead donate $10 for every Favre item given to the cause.

Fans have been jaded ever since the future Hall-of-Famer waffled on the idea whether to retire or not after the 2007. When he was unable to decide, the organization offered him $20 million to retire and not sign with another team. Favre declined the deal and was shipped to the New York Jets. A year later, he signed with Green Bay rival Minnesota and will play against his former team for the first time ever on Monday Night Football. Favre has repeated time and again this week that he isn't out to prove anyone wrong and that he is trying to simply win another game. It is contrary to his previous statements this year, claiming he wanted to "stick it to them."

Favre is the NFL's all-time leader in pass yards, touchdowns, wins and consecutive starts. He is also the active leader in comeback victories, adding to his total with a 37-yard touchdown pass with two ticks remaining to beat San Francisco.
