Minnesota Vikings To Be Without Antoine Winfield Against Lions

NFL News - November 14th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

winfieldThe Minnesota Vikings are going to be without one of the leading defensive backs, Antoine Winfield, once again this Sunday as they face the Detroit Lions. If there is some good news to be found in this for Minnesota fans, the Vikings do play the Lions.

Minnesota likely won't need Winfield's services as the Lions rank 21st in the league in passing, though Lions' WR Calvin Johnson is dangerous at any time.

Winfield is itching to get back into action as he has missed the Vikings' two previous games, including an off week during their bye.

Despite practicing the whole week in full pads, Winfield has decided to sit this one out tafter still experiencing pain in his foot when planting. "I've been out the last couple of days running on it, testing it," Winfield said to the Associated Press. "It's good going forward, but I still have a little problem cutting. But I would say next week I should be OK."

Winfield thinks it would be best to sit out of this game with concerns of coming back too soon. "A lot of guys try and come back from injuries real early and something else happens," Winfield said. "Hopefully we won't do that."

Winfield knows the chances that the Vikings have of going deep into the post-season, and does not want to compromise his status by coming back too early.

Other names on the Minnesota Vikings Injury Report include WR Bernard Berrian (hamstring) - Questionable, QB Brett Favre (groin) - Probable, LB E.J. Henderson (knee) - Probable, LB Jasper Brinkley (hamstring), and PR Darius Reynaud (hamstring)

Despite being one of the Vikings best defenders, the NFL Betting Lines have not changed because CB Antoine Winfield isn't playing. This game opened at Vikings -16 1/2, and is still currently available at the same spread at Bodog Sportsbook.

Other than Winfield, the Vikings appear to be healthy and ready to dispatch the Lions.
