Tampa Bay Looks for First Win Against Green Bay As Underdogs

NFL News - November 3rd, 2009 - Written by Scott

greenbay packerThe Tampa Bay Bucs are coming off their bye week and are hoping that they might have found some answers to problems that have led them to an 0-7 start. They will have a hard time notching that first win on Sunday as they host the Green Bay Packers. The Bucs are the only win less team in the NFL. In their last game, they were routed by New England 35-7. Green Bay is coming off their 38-26 loss to Minnesota in a game that brought former Packer quarterback Brett Favre back to Lambeau Field. The Packers are currently in second place in the NFC North behind the Vikings.

Green Bay (4-3) is led on offense by one of the best quarterbacks in the league, Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has thrown for 1,989 yards and 14 touchdowns for an offense that is averaging 26.7 points per game. He is surrounded by a talented group of receivers which are led by Donald Driver and Greg Jennings. They have combined for 986 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Packers' running attack is led by Ryan Grant who has rushed for 525 yards and 3 touchdowns. Their offense should have another great game on Sunday as the Bucs have struggled to stop anyone all year.

The Packers defense has also been tough this season. They have fared very well against the pass and are only giving up 184 yards per game and have recorded 11 interceptions in seven games. Green Bay is also ranked fourth in the league in points allowed and is only giving up 19 points per game. The Packers should have success in stopping a very slow Tampa Bay offense.

Tampa Bay has managed to do nearly nothing offensively all season. They are only scoring 13 points per game which ranks 28th in the league. After two quarterbacks failed to move their offense, Josh Freeman will get his chance on Sunday in his first NFL start. He has only completed 2 passes on 4 attempts this season for 16 yards. The Bucs are only managing 98 yards on the ground per game and are led by Cadillac Williams. They have only scored three rushing touchdowns all season. Williams has rushed for 310 yards and 2 touchdowns. To cap off a non-existent offense all season, they are led in receiving by tight end Kellen Winslow who has 295 yards and 4 touchdowns this season.

The Defense for the Bucs has been equally unimpressive this season. They are allowing 29 points per game which ranks 30th in the league. They are also giving up 376 yards per game, with 162 coming on the ground.

Green Bay heads to Tampa Bay as 9 1/2 point favorites over the Bucs according to BetUS sportsbook. Our NFL Betting Odds show that the over/under is set at 43 and the total has gone over in 4 of the Bucs' last 6 games at home.
