Cowboys Easily Handle Seahawks

NFL News - November 1st, 2009 - Written by John

cowboysThis is what Dallas fans have been expecting all along. A consistent passer, a break-out receiver and a defense that is smothering. All of it came together as the Dallas Cowboys more than cleared their 9 1/2-point spread, beating the Seattle Seahawks 38-17 on Sunday.

Tony Romo went without an interception for the third-straight game, and found receiver Miles Austin in the end zone for the third-straight game. Austin has a touchdown in every game he has started since being inserted into the lineup, and also led the team in yards for the third straight week with 61. The Cowboys are now serious contenders for the NFC East crown with the New York Giants fizzling in recent weeks, and are 5-2.

Romo had 256 yards and three touchdowns to three different receivers. Roy Williams hit paydirt for the first time since the season-opener on a seven-yard pass from Romo. In all, 10 different players had at least one catch

Dallas only trailed when Seattle kicked a field goal midway through the first quarter to make it 3-0. That lead wouldn't last long, however, when Romo hit Sam Hurd on the next possession for a short gain that turned into a 36-yard touchdown. Marion Barber followed with a two-yard score in the second quarter that made it a two-score game. Problem was, Seattle only scored once in the next 30 minutes, and by the time they found the end zone again, the game was long over.

Dallas went on a 24-0 run starting at the end of the second quarter in a stretch that included Austin and Williams' touchdown catches and a touchdown by Patrick Crayton on a punt return. Crayton has not been the Cowboys' typical return man but has been getting more touches since losing his starting wideout spot to Austin.

Seattle's numbers were not as bad as the score would indicate. Matt Hasselbeck had 249 yards and two touchdowns and would've had another if his target, Seneca Wallace, hadn't fell while his pass was still in the air. But the Seahawks didn't get much production from their running game, gaining only 79 yards primarily from Julius Jones.
