Houston Wins Easily Against Oakland

NFL News - October 4th, 2009 - Written by John

texaqnsHouston running back Steve Slaton was off to a rough sophomore season, but playing against the Raiders has a way of helping shake away the rust.

Slaton, who ran for only 127 yards with no touchdowns through his first three games, finally broke through with his first two scores of the season to lead the Texans to a 29-6 win Sunday. Houston scored five different ways during the game, getting a safety early in the fourth quarter and a 95-yard score by Jacoby Jones on the ensuing kickoff.

Slaton's first two scampers, from 18 and 32 yards, were the first touchdowns of the game and broke up a field goal spree. They took Houston to a 20-6 lead at the half, more than enough to hold of the Raiders who only gained 165 total yards.

Back-up Ryan Moats also had a good day running. His 56 yards were only second to Slaton's and was more than enough to bruise up the Oakland defense.

Quarterback Matt Schaub, who threw for seven touchdowns in his last two games, didn't sizzle, but was more than effective with 224 pass yards. He hit seven different receivers, including his favorite target, Andre Johnson. His two receptions were actually tied for the most and netted 66 yards.

Meanwhile, Oakland was woeful again. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell only averaged 3.9 yards per completion for a whopping rating of 48.5. No running back had more than 24 yards and their former first-round pick, Darren McFadden had minus-three yards on six carries. The team as a whole fumbled three times. Their defense has no quarterback hits and no tackles for loss, although the did have four sacks.
