Patriots 3 Point Underdogs Against Eagles In Week 1 of NFL Preseason

NFL News - August 12th, 2009 - Written by Jimmy

On Thursday night, NFL fans will get their first chance to see Tom Brady back on the field when the Philadelphia Eagles host the New England Patriots. After missing last season due to injury, Brady is expected to make his much anticipated return against the Eagles in both team's first preseason game. There is also plenty of buzz surrounding an Eagles team that finished last season on a tear. Both quarterbacks, Tom Brady and Donovan McNabb, should see some playing time early in this contest. Betting Lines have the Philadelphia Eagles listed as the favorite at -3 (+105), while the underdog Patriots are listed at +3 (-125). For all of the latest lines on tomorrow's preseason game, be sure to visit Bodog Sportsbook.

In the first game last year Tom Brady went down with an injury and was lost for the season. New England played admirably without their star quarterback, finishing the season at 11-5 but they came up short of making the playoffs. With his return for the 2009 NFL season, the Patriots are listed as the betting favorite to win the Super Bowl this year. With receivers like Randy Moss and Wes Welker to throw the ball too, Brady will lead an explosive offense this season. Though most NFL fans expect the Patriots to put up huge numbers offensively this season, tomorrow's preseason game against the Eagles could be a different story. The New England starters will only play for a limited amount of time before they are replaced by their back ups. So the performance of New England's second string quarterback Kevin O'Connell will be key factor in the outcome of the game. Betting Odds have the Patriots listed as an underdog to beat the Eagles, so New England's back ups will need to play well if they are going to win the game.

The Philadelphia Eagles finished the regular season last year winning four of their last five games which earned them a playoff birth. They went on to win their first two playoff games before losing a hard fought battle in the NFC Championship Game. A big reason for their success down the stretch last year, was the excellent play of quarterback Donovan McNabb. He carried the team with amazing performances week after week and has plenty of reasons to be excited coming into this season. DeSean Jackson emerged as a big play threat as a rookie last year, and the Eagles are excited to see what he and McNabb can do in their second season together. The Eagles provided McNabb with another explosive wide receiver by drafting Jeremy Maclin in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft. Now that McNabb has some talented play makers surrounding him on offense, there are big expectations surrounding the 2009 Philadelphia Eagles. Second string quarterback Kevin Kolb, and third string quarterback A.J. Feeley will both need to play well on Thursday, as they will see the bulk of the playing time. Betting Lines have the Eagles listed as a three point favorite, so their back ups will need to perform well if they are going to cover this number at home. NFL fans will be anxious to see two of the league's top quarterbacks take the field when the Patriots take on the Eagles on Thursday.
