Owens Back At Practice

NFL News - August 31st, 2009 - Written by John

terrell owensTerrell Owens so finally went there. After missing three weeks of practice time, T.O. finally risked the safety of his ailing pinkie toe and returned to the Bills Monday without so much as an 'owee'.

Owens sprained his right toe during the opening preseason game against the Titans and hasn't seen the field since, leaving Bills fans anxious to get a better glimpse of their new play maker.

This is welcome news for Buffalo, which as been plodding through the preseason at a steady, if not unremarkable pace. The Bills are 1-3, including a 17-0 drubbing by the Super Bowl Champs over the weekend. The starters haven't helped much. With Trent Edwards under center, have only put up three points in 15 series. Not good considering a typical offense gets about 12-13 series a game. The Bills get New England, New Orleans and Miami three of the first four games, all who averaged over 21 points a game last year. Three points will probably leave them short of a W.

Owens was brought in to revive the stagnant offense and has proven to be an elite fantasy wide receiver in his first year with a new team. In 2004 with the Eagles, Owens hauled in 77 balls for 1,200 yards and 14 touchdowns, one short of winning his bet that would've forced head coach Andy Reid into spandex tights. FantasyPlayers.com rated T.O. as the fourth-best receiver that year. Again in 2006 with the Cowboys, T.O. had 1,180 yards receiving for 13 scores and was rated no. 2 overall.

Around the league there were several other injury notes. Vikings quarterback Brett Farve said he may have a cracked rib although there haven't been any tests run yet.
The Baltimore Ravens' placed nickleback Samari Rolle on the PUP would miss at least the first six weeks of the season with a neck injury that has been ailing him since last year. He will have another surgery to help with the injury but doctors stressed that the injury is career-threatening and Rolle should consider his health first.

The Cincinnati Bengals placed tight end Ben Utecht on injured reserve due to a concussion, rendering him inactive for the remainder of the season.
