Kansas City Chiefs Giving 2 Points To Visiting Texans

NFL News - August 15th, 2009 - Written by Bruce

The Kansas City Chiefs will host the Houston Texans on Saturday, in what will be the first preseason game for both teams this 2009 NFL Season. The Texans are hoping to have their first winning season in franchise history after finishing with an 8-8 record the last two years. Last year was a brutal year for the Chiefs, as they managed only one win in their final twelve games ending the season at 2-14. The Texans improved some of their weak spots this off season but will look much like they did last season. In contrast, the Chiefs had a tumultuous off season which brings them into the 2009 NFL Season with a much different look. Betting Lines for Saturday's game have the Kansas City Chiefs listed as a favorite for the game at -2. The visiting Houston Texans will go into the game as the underdog with Betting Odds listing them at +2. Make sure to visit BetED Sportsbook for the latest betting lines on Saturday's preseason game.

Long time Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez was traded this off season to the Atlanta Falcons. This was only the beginning of a hectic off season, as Kansas City brought in a new head coach and a new starting quarterback. Todd Haley is hoping to bring some of the explosive plays with him from his Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator days, when he begins his first season as the Kansas City Chiefs head coach. Matt Cassel was brought in as well this off season to become the Chiefs' franchise quarterback. Cassel stepped in for the Patriots when Tom Brady got hurt last year and played very well in his absence. The Chiefs will need Cassel to be the leader they hope he is if they are going to turn their team around this year. Saturday's preseason game will be the first chance for Cassel and Haley to make their Kansas City debuts. The starters will not see much playing time on Saturday, so the Kansas City back ups will need to play well if they are going to cover the two point spread. Brodie Croyle and Tyler Thigpen should see most of the time under center, so their performance could be the difference in which team will win on Saturday.

The 2009 Houston Texans are hoping to finally get over the hump and make the playoff for the first time in franchise history. The Texans have talent on both sides of the ball, which is why many people think they will have a big year this season. Matt Schaub is Houston's starting quarterback, and he is coming off an impressive 92.7 quarterback rating last year. Schaub will need to stay healthy if the Texans are going to be successful this season as he has missed five games each of the last two years. Wide receiver Andre Johnson led the NFL in both receptions and yards last year proving he is one of the league's top wide outs. Steve Slaton gives the Texans an explosive runner coming out of the back field. The Texans should put up big numbers this year, but the starters will not play much on Saturday so the team's back ups will be crucial in the outcome of the game. Dan Orlovsky and Rex Grossman should see the bulk of the playing time at quarterback against the Chiefs. The Texans will need them to play well if they are going to stay within the two point spread. Saturday's preseason game will be the first chance for fans to see how the Chiefs and Texans look going into the upcoming 2009 NFL Season.
