Jets Look For 1st Preseason Win Against Giants

NFL News - August 28th, 2009 - Written by Scott

jetsThe battle in New York will take place Saturday night as the New York Giants host the New York Jets in a Week 3 preseason game.  This will be the final time the two teams meet as this is the last year of this stadium. The Jets are coming into this game without a win, losing to St. Louis and Baltimore in there first two preseason games.  The Giants hold a 1-1 preseason record with a win over St. Louis and a loss to Chicago.  It is always an interesting game when these two teams from New York collide and even though it is preseason, this should not be any different.  The Jets lead their preseason matchups with the Giants 21-18-1

The Giants have looked all but impressive during their first two preseason games.  They are averaging only 13 points a game.  They got their only 3 points in their last preseason game on a field goal in the second quarter.  This stat should greatly improve as Eli manning and the rest of the starters will get the majority of playing time on Saturday.  The Giants led the league in rushing last year so look for their ground game to be successful against the Jets.  Their defense seams to be solid as they are only giving up 18 points per game this preseason.  The only issues on this side of the ball is they have quite a few injuries on the defensive line.

Now that the Jets have named Mark Sanchez as their starting quarterback, he must use these next two preseason games to get ready for their season opener.  He did not look sharp at all in in his last game against a solid Baltimore defense.  Sanchez needs to get a win under his belt before the start of the regular season, but this might not be the week it happens.  It's unlikely that running back Shonn Greene will play.  He is expected to spell with Thomas Jones and Leon Washington.  The defense is playing fairly well only giving up 331 yards a game.

The Jets come into the game as the underdog as expected.  The Giants are a 3 1/2 point favorite with the payout set at +100.  The Jets are a 3/12 point underdog and the payout is set at -120.  The over/under is set at 37 for Saturday nights contest at Giant Stadium.
