New TV Shows Put Up Stiff Competition

Gambling News - September 30th, 2009 - Written by Bonnie

betusThe 2009 fall line up of shows has brought on a wide range of series and only time will tell which ones will outlast the strong criticism of viewers. With such stiff competition in the prime time line up, several of good series may get shafted simply due to a time conflict. Today's generation has taken a real liking to the instant hit sensation of reality television and if you are a nighttime television viewer, you know exactly what we are talking about. Almost every night of the week, you can find some sort of real life drama gracing the screens of millions of viewers around the world. Competitions with large cash winnings are for some reason, what we as viewers, can not get enough of. Do they pose a threat to some new and upcoming shows? Only time will tell if these new series can draw attention away from what has taken over the television networks.

There are a number of new series that have recently been released, and with so many to choose from, there will definitely be one or two that fall short of viewers approval. Each network has a long list of successful shows and they continue to add to that list every season. New and exciting dramas have a good chance of a long running, versus the shows that are similar to some of the already popular series. Grey's Anatomy is only a few seasons into their run and is one of the most watched series on television. When you put a new drama, such as Mercy and Trauma, up against an already successful show as Grey's, viewers tend to be more loyal to the shows they have already become fans of. They already know the characters and can almost always relate to at least one of the characters on the show. Although the plots may be different, the scene of a hospital can only draw in so many viewers, over and over again.

Cougar Town is fresh on the scene and already creating a buzz throughout TV land. Viewers fell in love with Courtney Cox when Friends was one of the most watched comedies on television. Viewers can only hope to get as much talent from her role in Cougar Town as they did in her previous running series. Cougar Town gives the dating scene something that most young adults can relate to and actually learn from. Although Cox is happily married and does not fit the "cougar" stereotype, her ability to really get into character is what will make this show a must see this season.

Those are two examples of the stiff competition this season. We could go on all day about the pros and cons of new television series, but it all comes down to giving the viewers a series that will keep them entertained. Drawing new viewers in is not the hard part, its keeping them entertained and coming back for more.
