Two Venues in Atlantic City Receive Underage Gambling Fines

Gambling News - October 29th, 2009 - Written by Glen

As if Atlantic City had not had enough problems, two of their casinos recently received fines for allowing underage gambling on the premesis. Totaling at $85,000 dollars, these fines are likely going to add to the financial hurt already imposed upon Atlantic City's gambling businesses.

Though the day started with business as usual back in June of 2008, an underage player managed to take a seat at the roulette tables and go for a spin. A fifteen year old was caught by the Casino Control Commission, as well as a twenty year old woman who had been playing at a blackjack table. Bally's Atlantic City will now be required to cash out for $85,000 dollars to make restitution for the young gambler's.

The legal gambling age in New Jersey, as with most other states, is twenty-one.

With the threat of a smoking ban, competition from USA friendly casinos, and neighboring states increasing their gambling programs, Atlantic City has been taking a harsh blow to their overall revenue. Should the trend continue, more gambling venues within Atlantic City may face bankruptcy.

Earlier this year, two casinos in Missouri had also received such penalties for underage gambling. Though most of the patrons of these gambling dens enter as legal aged participants, youths are sometimes able to slip through the cracks. Some states require all casinos to use personalized gambling ID cards, thus allowing them to control losses, winnings, tax status, and age requirements, but this too has been phased out of many locations.

Though the $85,000 dollar fine may not seem like much to a business than receives millions of dollars per quarter, the drastic reduction in income has been a tough challenge for gambling hosts around the nation, but particularly in Atlantic City.
