Gov. Riley Of Alabama Allegedly Received Gambling Contributions

Gambling News - November 10th, 2009 - Written by Glen

rileyRecent times have shown trouble for gambling options within Alabama, as lawmakers have recently imposed a ban on the bingo halls that once entertained residents all over the state. A former cabinet member under Governor Riley has recently come out and blown the whistle, claiming that Riley had received "campaign contributions" from casino operating Indians from Mississippi. This money was, as the ex-cabinet member suggested, allegedly intended to decrease competition amongst gambling choices between Alabama and Mississippi.

A formal denial has already been issued, but it is possible that damage has already been done. While the Bingo halls were technically banned by the judicial system, many residents may be looking at a possible corruption scandal. It was reported that $3 million dollars in contributions had been given to the Riley campaign, which may have or have not been meant to influence policy makers toward keeping forms of gambling under control, thus keeping Mississippi Indian Casinos in control of the Alabama market.

Governor Riley had kicked off his task force against video gambling, had been questioned by some, but now that these contribution allegations have begun to fly, the entire situation is heating up. Whether or not these events are coincidental, only time will tell, but due to Political Action Committees and the laws surrounding campaign contributions, the paper trail leading back to these allegedly ill-gotten gains may not be as clear as law enforcement would need them to be - should they prove to be scandalous.

In addition to government figures denying the allegations, the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has also vigorously denied these claims. Whether or not these donations took place, as well as the legality of the possible donations, will both be investigated as the story unfolds.

Though there may have been controversy over the land based gambling venues, Online Casino Gambling Sites for USA Players are still available and ready to be accessed.
