Gambling Bust Leads To Arrest Of Dozens Of Seniors

Gambling News - November 26th, 2009 - Written by Glen

hand cuffsOnline gambling may be an unregulated source of entertainment in Cyprus, but land based gambling remains illegal. Due to the latter fact, forty two senior citizens were arrested and charged with illegally gambling.

The gambling bust ended with the women, reportedly aged between 75 and 95, being arrested for playing illegal card games. Poker and gin rummy were amongst the games being played with cash wagers. Police caught wind of the malfeasance when neighbors had reported them for the raucous and commotion.

As a result of the raid, barely 100 euros, or $150 dollars was confiscated. The ladies, should they end up convicted, may face nothing more than small fines, though a small amount of jail time remains a possibility. All of those arrested have already been booked and released, and now await their court dates.

Oddly enough, most of the legal USA casinos, many of the online sportsbooks, and even a few USA online poker rooms are licensed and operating out of Cyprus. Though there are no real laws regulating, legalizing, or banning Online Gambling, land based gambling in the home remains relatively illegal.
