Colorado Representative Speaks Out Against Online Gambling ban

Gambling News - November 11th, 2009 - Written by Glen

online gamblingRepresentative Jared Polis of Colorado recently wrote a letter to Roll Call, the dubbed the Newspaper of Capitol Hill, speaking out against the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 and its failures. As with many other democrats, Polis believes that the ban on USA Online Gambling needs to be ended, turning legislation towards regulation and taxation.

In his letter, Polis states that billions of dollars are being sent off shore to potentially unscrupulous providors in exchange for gambling venues. As a former Internet money maker, Polis supports free economic rights over the Internet, and claims that it is "time to scrap the ineffective attempt to ban Internet gambling in the U.S." and instead tax and regulate the industry to protect the legal aged adult consumer.

He asserts the claim that the UIGEA has left many Americans under the control of foriegn entities, those who are not kept governened by any American laws. While these gaming platforms strive to remain the most trusted online casinos, poker rooms, and sportsbooks, there are still lawless services out there that prey on those who have not researched the gambling venue that they chose to play through. Regulatory bodies would ultimate protect the consumer, as well as bring much needed finances back into the government.

The World Trade Organization, the European Union, and even the United State's private Financial Sector has already complained about the UIGEA, due to the limitations imposed on foriegn investment as well as payment processing. Hundreds of millions of dollars have already been seized by the Federal government from online gambling services, particularly the payment processors that reside within the United States.

Polis goes on to state his approval of Barney Frank's initiative to overturn the UIGEA, but time is running out until the full power of the UIGEA is activated. December 1st, 2009, is the date that the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act officially turns into effect, but damage has already been done through the seizures and due to the fact that those publically traded, honest merchants of online gambling have already pulled from the American Market.

If you too believe that the UIGEA need be overturned and regulated, contact your local congressmen as they will likely respond to your whims - especially if they wish to keep office.
