Iowa Gambling Decision Postponed

June 5th, 2009 - Written by Glen

iowa gamblingPreviously in the week we featured an article about Iowa's gambling expansion initiative. Unfortunately, any hope for a decision has been pushed back for another month, if not a bit later.

Those who hold gambling interests in Iowa will now be waiting until the Ides of July. At this time, the Iowa Racing and Gambling Commission will be meeting to decide whether or not more casinos are to be erected within the state. The Commission declared their choice to wait until July on Thursday.

Two reports were ordered by the Commission in order to ascertain just how building more casinos would affect the state. They wanted to know whether or not there would be a negative impact, and these reports would allegedly shine some light on that situation. The reports will be gone over between now and the July deadline, hopefully leading to a verdict.

Iowa's neighboring states have kept an eye on the workings of Iowa's gambling expansions. The surrounding states will be, at least some of them, matching Iowa's newly constructed casinos, assuming they are actually built, and matching them in kind with casinos of their own. This decision will have a significant affect, no matter how it is handled.
