Farrah Fawcett Dies Earlier than Expected

Gambling News - June 25, 2009 - Written by Glen

Charlie's Angel star Farrah Fawcett perished in a Santa Monica hospital died this morning after a long battle with rectal cancer. Her diagnosis was made in 2006, and a tumor was surgically removed in order to prolong her life. Despite the surgery and an experimental German treatment, her fight against cancer was lost. She was announced dead near 9:30 in the morning.

Fawcett made her mainstream debut with staggeringly beautiful features in the 1970's and quickly became a cultural icon, not to mention one of the largest sex symbols to date. Her career took off and continued for several decades, carrying her well into the mid 2000s before her cancerous infection was discovered. Long time boyfriend Ryan O'Neal stood by her side to the bitter end.

O'Neal was quoted to say, "After a long and brave battle with cancer, our beloved Farrah has passed away." He continued with "Although this is an extremely difficult time for her family and friends, we take comfort in the beautiful times that we shared with Farrah over the years and the knowledge that her life brought joy to so many people around the world."

O'Neal and Fawcett had not married, but plans were in the works to seal the deal on what was assumed to be her death bed in the days preceding her passing. Since 1982, the couple had been together and had born a son, now 24.

Fawcett's anal cancer spread to her liver two years ago, which was the ultimate cause of her failure to fight off the rampantly growing disease. Chemotherapy was administered, but the cancerous cells refused to go into remission. A documentary was made, then aired last Friday. Fawcett provided narration for a great portion of it, and it detailed her reconciliation with the twilight of her life.

Fawcett left behind a bereaved lover, a loving son, and a legacy. Millions of pin-up posters were sold bearing her likeness. The top selling Playboy issue in the 1990's was the one that featured Fawcett. Her career as an actress is one that will not soon be forgotten. Farrah will be missed.
