China Blocks Internet Casinos Within Borders

Casino News - October 16th, 2009 - Written by Glen

online gamblingA declaration by the Chinese government has prohibited foreign investors from entering collaboration with domestic markets within their realm. This carried the unfortunate side effect of essentially disbanding any online gambling sites from operating inside China.

All forms of Online Gambling will be affected by this change, but gambling stands to take a massive hit. With the weakened global economy, multinational prohibitions of online gambling, and reduced voluntary spending, online gambling has had enough problems. While still ahead over land based casino gambling, particularly in the United States, online casinos could potentially see less than crippling reduction in revenue appropriated from the Chinese market.

Players within China will find that their gaming access has been thoroughly restricted. The only possible benefactor from this shift would be those brick and mortar casinos found in Macau. Macau is, for those who do not know, one of the largest gambling havens in the world. Macau has already been showing record revenue, and this Internet gambling prohibition will likely give Macau yet another boost to their bankroll.

All over the world, Online Casinos have been suffering prohibition. Russia has completely banned the practice, China has now as well, and the United States has made it more difficult for players to transfer funds between their casinos and their banks. While online casinos will undoubtedly continue to thrive, players will be left in the cold, without even a chance to gamble - especially in Russia.
