Multiple Casino Robberies Take Place In December

Casino News - December 25th, 2009 - Written by Glen

hand cuffsThough the holidays are meant to be a time of sharing and joy, some who have fallen upon hard times have turned to criminal mischief in order to claim some ill gotten gains. While the recession has hurt many, the crime of robbery has begun to hurt even more. Several casino robberies have taken place, with some rather large heists currently being investigated.

The Black Diamond Casino in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was one of the most recent robberies to take place. A Wednesday afternoon in late December saw a rather festive burglar enter a casino shortly after 3:00. In broad daylight, this robber entered the casino in a Santa suit, toting a firearm. The white male, said to be over six feet tall, made off with an amount of money that has yet to be released. No injuries were reported.

The middle of December saw a larger scale heist. An armored car was boosted on a Monday in Las Vegas. The suspects had taken to the crime at the earliest hours of the morning, making off with the funds before 9:00 am. Tens of thousands were taken in the heist, which, according to sources, does not bode well for the burglars. Cameras were on site, and most armored car robberies turn unsuccessful - particularly in Las Vegas. The suspects had, allegedly, also started a fire as a distraction - an attempt at misdirection in order to facilitate an easier robbery. The suspects made off in a Dodge Stratus - a sure sign that they need the money.

The robberies began early in December, beginning with a robbery during the first Friday of the month. Reno police had received a 911 distress call over a robber that took place in the Gold Dust West Casino. Two men had entered the casino, demanding money from the sports betting section of the gaming complex. Two African American males were sought as suspects, as they had been described by the cashier. The men made off with a black bag full of money, then proceeded to run away in a then unknown direction.

Crimes like this are, unfortunately, a regular occurrence around the holidays. Online Casinos are, thankfully, quite safe from such disconcerting activities. While one may end up being victimized in a land based casinos burglary, the possibility of being robbed of your winnings through an online casino are nonexistent.
