Foxwoods Casino Petition To Be Heard By PA Gaming Control

Gambling News - August 25th, 2009 - Written by Glen

foxwood casinoOn Friday, the 28th of August, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board will hold a hearing concerning the Petition by Foxwoods to allow for an extension on the time allotted to make slot machines available.

Foxwoods filed a petition for an extension of up to twenty-four months, as per the law. Current statutes state that a slot licensee "...shall be required to operate and make available to play a minimum of 1,500 machines at any one licensed facility within one year of issuance by the board of a slot machine license unless otherwise extended by the board."

Foxwoods will have to provide solid proof that they require the extension, as well as they must answer any inquiries put forth by the Board. The request was made on May 22nd, 2009, while the license was issued on May 29th, 2008. Time has run short, and Foxwoods may be out of luck if the Board does not approve the extension.

The matter has been reviewed by applicable boards and counsels, and all parties involved will be required to stay their course and argue their point.

Foxwoods has no intent on changing anything other than the date the machines are required to be in place. If they fail, the consequences could prove dire.

Foxwoods Resort Casino is the largest casino in the world, not counting the Venetian in Macau, China. Foxwoods Resort is a fully loaded casino, and has been operating since 1986, at which time it was a Bingo Hall. Nearly $200 million dollars is kicked to the state of Connecticut by the Resort alone, so the Pennsylvanian slot hall is backed by sound financial support. Slots, video poker, a poker room, a bingo hall, keno, craps, blackjack, and baccarat are all found in Foxwoods Resort, and with any luck, Pennsylvania will be able to enjoy Foxwoods gaming.
