National Heads Up Poker Championship Rescheduled For March

February 10th, 2011 – by Glen Farmer

For the seventh time running, the NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship will kick off. Players will be able to meet in Caesars Palace to duke it out in a head to head competition.

From March 3rd to March 6th, players will be meeting at Caesars Palace in order to compete for a massive $1.8 million prize pool, with a $750,000 win going to the first place contestant. He or she who can beat out the pool of 64 players will take this prize and be crowned the champion of heads up play.

The 2010 edition of the NBC National Heads Up Poker Championship had crowned Annie Duke as the champion. She earned $500,000 for her efforts after she battled through the field, beating Erik Seidel in the ultimate showdown.

Some major professional players came out in 2010, including Doyle Brunson, Phil Ivey, Chris Ferguson, Daniel Negreanu, Huck Seed, and many more. Tom Dwan, who is widely regarded as one of the best heads up players in the word, albeit somewhat inconsistently, also made an appearance last year. It is likely that all of these players and more will show up.

The event has been running since 2005. Phil Hellmuth won the first event, batting Chris Ferguson. Ted Forrest, Paul Wasicka, Chris Ferguson, Huck Seed, and Annie Duke have all won the event. Chris Ferguson has made more final tables in this event than anyone else, having made it to the finals three times together, winning the event once.
